Two Sunglass Town

So last May, I finally opened an email from myself that just said, “do this.”

It was a forward from Song Confessional, a podcast where they get musicians to create songs about anonymous confessions. They were holding a contest that opened up the songwriting to the public. Ever since I heard the concept for this show, I wanted to be a part of it. So when I saw they were giving other songwriters a chance, I knew I needed to go for it. Trying to complete a song while also 24/7 parenting two small children is a real challenge. But I had to finish it to prove to myself that I could write and produce a song even when I felt like I was drowning in motherhood. And I did it, in 2 days, and won! Here’s the demo I submitted.

The prize was producing the song in studio with a band and earning a spot on KUTX song of the day (I feel like I cut in line or something for that one). It’s been a pleasure getting to know Walker Lukens through this process, and seeing what a talented group of musicians can do with your ideas. The song is majorly improved, funky, sexy, chill…I love it.

This experience relit my fire to produce music again and I’m using my limited free time to do just that, but I could still use some help. Click here if you are interested in supporting my music endeavors and be sure to listen to the track we created. Releasing 2/28.

Weird Fishes (Radiohead Cover)

I have left this song alone on soundcloud and it has gotten over 40k streams. People just like it. It’s a simple muddy keyboard and vocal. I’ve wanted to redo it so many times, but I’m just leaving it be for now. It’s also on other streaming platforms, I just like to see the comments that pop up on this one.

Body Experiments

This album is a collection of my favorite instrumental pieces that I created back when I was composing for low budget/no budget films. Check out the track “Exit the Body” if you want to hear where I think I inspired the Stranger Things theme…it’s a long story, but you can message me if you really care to know more.

A Scene from Break Night

Speaking of composing for films, I tracked down this movie called Break Night that used a few of my arrangements. You can currently stream it on Prime. (Scene use with permission from the director Joel Souza)

Instead of writing for the movie, Joel chose some of my songs from soundcloud. This choice (see video) surprised me the most. It’s something I made in garageband with one of their voice samples and played a simple beat and bass. If you’ve ever played around in garageband, you’d probably recognize it. I always kind of thought it was a little silly, but his use of it in this scene really gave it some drama. It is my dream someday to score an entire movie. I promise I won’t do it in garageband. I’ve upgraded. Hit me up if you are looking for someone who has a very wide range and can meet a deadline. Check out my film profile here.

Sooner Than I Wanted

This was the first song I ever recorded myself. I didn’t even have a microphone. I just used the laptop mic. And somehow it still sounds good.

It’s a sad song about losing someone before you were ready…which I guess is how it always happens. People have told me this has helped them with their grief. I wrote it for mine.

Lyrics:

In the most peculiar places, I will think of you

in a sea of familiar faces, I will look out for you

oh the fall came sooner than I wanted, yeah the fall came sooner than I wanted…

For the words never spoken, I will know them true.

in one ear, stuck to center, finding out that there’s no room…

and the thoughts came sooner than I wanted, oh the thoughts came sooner than I wanted.

and when I go, will you know?

and when you go, will anyone tell me?

far away will be your smile, but alone, we’ll meet again.

and the end came sooner than I wanted, oh the end came sooner than I wanted..

yeah the end came sooner than I wanted, when the fall came.

Where’s the rest?

Maybe you haven’t been paying attention. I have to take care of toddlers. So it’s going to take a minute. If you want it sooner, click below.
